bracelets, bangles

Hello everybody,

First I would like to express my delight as I browse through this site.
As I am very new to paper mache, I was wondering if you have any general instructions/tips for making bracelets/bangles.
How do I measure them before the layering (for kids, for adults) ? Should I layer the inside as well as the outside?
:?:

Thanks

Hi Yula!!! big_smile  Welcome to this forum. You can make general bangles out of a flexible peice of cardboard( cereal box cardboard) Cut a strip out f it whatever thickness and then form a circle. Then just cover it with papier mache. big_smile  big_smile  lol  8)

Re: bracelets, bangles

Hi Yula,

I have found that another good base for bracelets are the cardboard rolls left over when you run out of tape.  Covered with pm and decorated with paints you can stick on foil or plastic jewels for decoration.

Another way is to twist newspaper tightly, bend round to make a circle, tape it and cover with pm.

Good luck

Thanks prashanth and Vicky.
When you say to cover it with PM you mean layers or pulp ?
What kind of finish is the best?

Thanks

Re: bracelets, bangles

Hey Yula,
Its ur choice to say what ever you would cover it with. If you are making a bracelet or bangle that is very thich I mean in width, then you can cover it with pulp and either carve something on it or jus paste other stuff or cover it with PM paste and do somthing. If its pretty thin in width then it would be easier to cover with PM paste. big_smile  big_smile  lol  8)

Re: bracelets, bangles

Hello again Yula.

Sorry my reply was not very helpful

I would use paper strips to cover bracelets for a nice smooth finish.  You could use pulp if you wanted more texture.  The strips will also dry quickly.  Another idea I saw recently in a magazine is to use cardboard shapes covered in decorated papers and linked together with the link rings used in making jewellery.

Good luck,

vicky
