HELP!! I'm trying to create a paper mache tree

I am trying to get information on how to create a paper mache tree about 16-18 inches tall that will be strong enough to support a popsicle stick tree house(4x6) filled with a plastic index card box and index cards.  This is for a class project and any information on what I should use for the "model" would be helpful.  I have never usd paper mache before and thought chicken wire might be a good thing to use.  Thank You! big_smile

Re: HELP!! I'm trying to create a paper mache tree

I have used coat hanger wire with much success in the past. It's a heavier gauge and you can achor it into wood.

Re: HELP!! I'm trying to create a paper mache tree

A while back I made a tree about 3 feet high, using for the bottom a heavy cardboard spool (from print shop), 2 pieces of corrugated cardboard, cut to simulate simple branches.  The cardboard was cut to fit into the spool and both "branch" pieces slotted to fit each other making right angles.  Several balloons made for the crown, covered with papier mache layers, finishing with 2 tones of green tissue.
