Making Molds from finished papier mache projects?

Is it possible it make a mold using an existing papier mache porject. I want to reproduce something i've made into a resin or plaster but am not sure if the papier mache original will hold up in the mold making process. Has anybody done this. any tips??

Thanks Much,
Xtopher!

(and I'm sorry if this topic was already out there, I couldn't find it)

Re: Making Molds from finished papier mache projects?

I think this is one of those "it depends" questions.

1.  Undercuts.  Is there any chance we could see your finished project?  It would be easier to advise.  Undercuts either have to be worked around, eliminated, etc, or the casting can't be removed from the mold without destroying one of them.

2. Finish.  What kind of finish is on the surface?  Varnish?  Shellac?  Polyurethane?  You would need some kind of fairly impervious finish to protect the original.

3. What kind of mold were you thinking of using, plaster?  Latex?  Wax?  Other?

4.  How solid is the original project -- any thin, flapping, or loose sections?

More details, please.
