I would like to cover styrofoam food trays that you get in the supermarket with papier mache. I cannot get the papier mache to stick once it has dried. I use a flour and water paste.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
Julie
try adding some white glue or carpenters glue for your first layer of paper, then use your flour/water paste for successive layers.
Maybe if you put a few strips of masking tape onto the styrofoam the paper mache might grip better.
I haven`t tried it before so I don`t know if it will work.

I've had the same trouble, with the paste not sticking. Thanks for the suggestion of masking tape. I'll try that!

Try P.V.A and tissue paper for the first layer it will stick to most materials.

I dont use flour and water paste on any papier mache. It has a limited life I think. I only use PVA paste and some wallpaper paste (as it has some anti- fungal properties. If you make pulp using PVA and wallpaper it will stick to anything! Hope this helps!ink:
