Modelling paste

Was wondering if anyone has used modelling paste to get a really smooth finish.  I am going to use it on my next project,  Was looking for any tips.

Re: Modelling paste

I have never used it, and would really like to know how your project turns out.  I had to look up just what it is, and it appears to be a mixture of ground marble and resin, and can be cut, carved and sanded, and you can mix acrylic paint into it, or paint the surface of the paste when it is dry.

It does sound interesting.  I hope you post your results here, good, bad or indifferent.

I thought it sounded interesting, especially if you are looking for a really smooth finish.  I will post comments on how the project turns out, fingers crossed it is a winner.

Re: Modelling paste

Hi, What is modelling paste? I haven't heard of it before, but that doesn't mean anything, as I don't get out much. LOL  Also Liza4kit, how did it work for you?

Re: Modelling paste

Perhaps you mean paperclay?  It is possible to use this but mixed with water to make what potters call a slick.  You can then paint it on.  It will sand, though it dusts quite a lot and can pull away.  Most people would use a gesso for that sort of finishing.

Re: Modelling paste

No, it's not Paperclay.  It's actually called modeling paste.  It's a media you can use to build up surfaces.  For instance, if you were making a model of Britain on a board, you could build up the mountains with it, then paint it.

When I looked it up, it was described as a mix of ground marble and resin.  A friend said it has the consistency of really thick acrylic paint, but doesn't slump.
