flour paste

Up until now I've always used wallpaper paste to make pulp. However my many visits to this site have now inspired me to try and use flour paste.
Any tips on the blend and the pitfalls please( Apart from the mice living in your sculptures).

Re: flour paste

Hi Dave! After years of experimenting with flour paste I developed something that works well for me. Because unbleached flour has more gluten, it works better than bleached flour. Also, use a pinch of kosher salt to prevent lumps from forming. (Regular salt sheds after the project dries.) The pinch of salt needs to be blended with the flour thoroughly before adding warm water. Add water to your mixture slowly as you stir -- this also keeps the paste free of lumps.

Your flour paste will become thick as you work. Add water to thin. And. . .as disgussed on this forum before. . .you can keep your mixture for several days by refrigerating it.

If you apply two or three coats of polyurethane to your work, you shouldn't have trouble with rodents.
