Life size figures

Am total novice, but want to create for my local church life size figures for nativity scene.

Where and how do I start?

Tall order.

Re: Life size figures

First, read the articles and tutorials on this site and find those which might have any relevance.  Decide how strong you want the figures to be.  This will determine whether you use a basic armature of wire, wire netting, cardboard, scrunched paper etc.
You will probably be best using paper laminate for the final shaping and surfacing rather than pulp;  pulp is very difficult to dry and to hold in place on structure of the size you are envisaging.

Have a look at the excellent answer Sue (Catperson) has given on "Using Wire for your armatures - Question for those that do...."  This offers great help on your project.

Re: Life size figures

well peter, your certainly ambitious arent you ! LOL
i havent tried making anything this big but i have done a metre high camel and i put wads of newspaper in garbage bags and taped together in the general shape i was looking for.. then wrapped the plastic wads in wideish strips of dry newsprint to define the shape holding in place with masking tape then adding many many layers of strips until it is of the toughness and weight that will suit the purpose. For the glue i usually mix up wallpaper paste into a gel then mix in pva in a mixer ( or a bucket with a drill and paint stirrer attachment)until fluffy..
good luck with your adventure
