Paper Mache Recipes?????

Hi everyone!!! I am currently working on building a paper mache horse. I have a sawhorse for the base and Im going to use bags stuffed with newspaper, balloons and whatever else I can find to make the structure.

But I have one little problem.......the recipe.

I know you can make paper mache with flour and water, but last year in art class my teacher had this clear paper mache, worked really well, didn't clump, and didn't smell!! So I was wondering if any of you would happen to know the recipe for this clear paste.....or if he bought it, what its called.

Thanks

~Katie~

Re: Paper Mache Recipes?????

it might have been methyl cellulose, usually found as cellulose wallpaper paste in the dry form. Wallpaper pastes come in several formulas, be sure to ask for "dry cellulose wallpaper paste", usually in a box.

If you find it, mix with water to the consistency of raw egg whites, not thick.  It may help to mix it with water the night before you plan to use it.  It is not as likely to mold as the flour paste is.
