Re: Tips on smooooth finishing

Can you give us an idea of what you're trying to do?  How large?  How complicated?

What country are you in?

Wallpaper paste will probably do as well as anything -- apply it with a brush to one side of the paper, and smooth carefully.  A fast, rough job will take more time later.

Strips or pieces of newspaper will probably smooth down more easily than other kinds.

It can be sanded (using a sanding block, not just your fingers) when dry.  When the thickness of the PM seems sufficient, dry it thoroughly and sand again.  Coat with gesso, or acrylic or latex paint mixed with calcium carbonate powder (aka ground chalk or whiting).  The chalk helps fill in small gaps and gives a faster, smoother finish.

Practicing on small pieces before you take on a large project can help you see where you have to go.
