Help on making a doll PLEASE

hey, hello everyone im new here and when i stumbled upon this site, i was amazed by the things you can do with papier mache. I had seen and tried to do papier mache with the technique shown in Art Attack :] haha  big_smile

ok, what i want to do is a doll out of a drawing i did of myself and a friend haha, here's the link for you to see

im the one sitting in the mushroom hehe  wink

ok so i want to do myself sitting in the mushroom, and i've already done the mushroom, but my question is where to start with the figure? i know i must make a structure, but i would really appreciate advice on what to use, like to get a similar head shape to that in the drawing, etc etc

also, would it be better to do it with pulp or with layers?

thanks a lot  in advance for your advice

Re: Help on making a doll PLEASE

big_smile Hi
There are all sorts of ways to do this.  Probably the easiest is to get some wire (waste electrical, garden wire, etc. etc.) and twist it into the general shape for the figure.  Twist thin strips of newspaper or similar, wiped with some paste (best two thirds wallpaper one third PVA) and wind them around the wire to bulk out the form.  Let them dry.  Apply about four layers of pasted strips.  Allow to dry.  You should then be pretty near the form.
The head may be a bit more complicated.  You could do it by the above method, though you might want to use a styrofoam ball as a start - see the latest tutorial.  For finer moulding, since you're new to all this, put a bit of paste with some toilet paper and squeeze and squash it until it's a mash.  Lay it in place and shape it with whatever tool or appliance that seems to suit your need.
