Waterproofing the INside of a PM object?

Hey, all.  I'm more or less a papier mache duffer, and I'm using papier mache for a purpose that will horrify the more artistic among you...so if you can't stand horrible sights, better skip this post.

Still with me?  OK.  For reasons that are too complex to go into here, I have been tasked with creating the head for a dummy that is mounted on skis, and that will be sent over a jump, with maximum destruction being the objective.  Since my team wants to make a big impression, they decided that the dummy's head should be filled with fake blood, the idea being that it will fall off after the dummy goes over the jump and will splatter gore all over the hill. In other words, I'm making a papier mache head for the sole purpose of destroying it.  Think of a pinata, only instead of having nice sweeties inside, it's got a big bunch of yuck.  Happy cinco de mayo!

Anyway, my first idea was to make a simple head using a balloon as an armature, and then filling it with a flimsy supermarket plastic bag which I would then fill with fake blood.  I did a trial run today (using water instead of fake blood, I don't want that yuck all over my yard), and while the head shattered satisfyingly, the bag didn't burst.  So now I'm wondering if it's possible to waterproof the INside of the head and fill it with fake blood shortly before launch.  Anyone have ideas of how I might do this?   Or how I might rig it so that the bag will burst open?

Thanks for any help -- my team will not forgive me if that head doesn't explode blood on contact with the ground!

Yeah, you can get PM to be essentially H2O-proof.  This can be achieved with laquers and polyurethane coatings and such...common products found at the hardware store.  The trick for your project is accually applying the laquer to the INSIDE of the head.  What I would do, since I am assuming cosmetics are secondary, is to create your head as you have already, pop the balloon.  Then cut the head in half and waterproof the inside of the two haves with a laquer.  Then put the two halves together and seal the outside with additional PM.  Then, waterproof the outside too.  I would guess this will hold up long enough as long as you fill the head just before take-off.
