Tissue paper?

Well I've already made the model out of newspaper with paper mache. Then I tried paper mache-ing tissure paper for its final coat but its too thin and breaks then it usually drys dis-colered. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Tissue paper?

When using tissue paper, paste the adhesive directly onto the papier mache. Then carefully place your torn pieces of tissue where you have glued and very gently press into position. It is impossible to paste tissue paper - as you say, it breaks up too easily.

Some tissue's colour will run more than others. The better quality ones are less like to run, but some are made and sold specifically to run (presumably for some craft/greeting card works). It pays to shop around. Always experiment with a small area first until you are sure how it will respond.

Re: Tissue paper?

Is there a reason you are using tissue paper for your final skin?

My material of choice is those blue Scott Shop Towels (http://www.kcdiy.com/ShopSpec.htm).  this is the best stuff I have ever used for paper mache.  It's way more flexible than office paper or newsprint and much stronger.  I like it because you can stretch it onto the piece.  I have seen many PM artists use this stuff.
