How to make a smooth finish??

Hi,

I want to begin a new project next month using wire mesh and papermache.
I want to make a lifesize person out of it.

Normally, I wanted to make that statue out of plastic, but fiberglass plastic is too expensive and too difficult to use.
But I also have doubts using paper mache, because I want to have an ultra smooth finish before applying the paint to have the best result.

So I have to ask you experts:
Is it possible to grind paper mache?
If yes, which receipt do I have to use to get that ultra smooth surface?

Thanks a lot,
best regards,
Flynn

Re: How to make a smooth finish??

Have a look at the tutorials and read Melf's (Martin Favreau) information about pulps, particularly the 'porcelain'.  This would give you a very smooth finish that can be burnished as it dries with the back of a spoon and sanded when done.  For further smoothness, use gesso.
