Re: waterproof weatherproof paper mache

I have had some success in using p/mache out of doors.  Having created the sculpture, I sanded it the smoothest possible finish; sprayed it with oil-based undercoat; painted by hand with enamel paint and sprayed the finished article with clear lacquer.  This survived ten years of all weathers ranging from direct hot sunshine to several degrees of frost before, due mainly to lack of further maintenance, the paint developed some cracks so permitting ingress of water.  I am sure that regular care would have given it a permanent life.

a very good , cheap and speedy solution ( tree huggers will hate what am about to say no doubt  ) is urethane gel..or more communly know has boat sealant. they mostly use the stuff on amusement parks displays and such.
