Sealing finishes

Can anyone recommend  a basecoat that would seal/weatherproof paper mache and provide a  good foundation for acrylic paint?
And once I paint the acrylic over the basecoat, what can I use as a  final coat over the acrylic to best weatherproof it?
Mant thanks:-)

Re: Sealing finishes

:-)
for a base paint you use gesso..its  a white base color..
for a final coat you can use a very strong varnish..
like boat varnish..it will be waterproof but toxicity..so not for food..

Re: Sealing finishes

Hello
You might also consider using as a base coat Exterior Emultion house paint, then use final coats as suggested above by Shablulit.
I make hundreds of "bird Houses" each year using these paints and they have been used outside for years
