Cool clock design! How did you do the scale pattern on the mermaid tails--it looks kind of like sponge or netting to me?

I put a thick layer a papier mache pulp on to tail, let it dry a little then made indentations with the point of a palette knife - when it had dried I added more pulp around the indentations (if that makes sense)
