What is the first papier-mache project you ever made?

I mean outside of kindergarten.  wink

I was just thinking to myself today, since I seem to be making a lot of bowls lately - which is usually the first project that people start off with. The first project I ever made was actually a combination laptop desk/food tray.

What was the first project that you ever made?

The first papier mache project I made was my somethings brewing mirror, it was also the first PM item I sold.

Re: What is the first papier-mache project you ever made?

I think my first one was some sort of totem animal but I didn't really get into it until I had a copy of The Labyrinth and wanted to make the masks.

I think thats a recurring theme with quite a lot of current mask makers, we've all seen the same film!

Mind you I do have a soft spot for Brian Froud's artwork and I'd probably give my leg (not the arm I need that for making masks) to either meet him or go to the Labyrinth balls in America.

Funny that we have just been discussing Labyrinth on the Puppets forum!  I just watched it again this week, ditto the masks and also I want to make puppets like that!

The first adult piece I made was a truly terrible vase cast around a balloon.  I didn't pick up pm for years and then one of the boys wanted a big version of Thunderbird One, me not being keen on toy merchandising we had a crack at making our own using pm.  It has lasted two years and finally disintergrated this week when its last launch mission from the bed resulted in the nose cone breaking off and the final tail fin crumpling from the base.  OH Well!  It got me going again though so we went big after that and made a figure head for a Pirate Party ship.

A freaky spider i made while really bored at work, i made the skeleton with some twisted paper clips. Glue and some napkins... thats were it started. Here in Panama they dont really teach you that in school i learned it from watching art attack and stuff.

Placques. I made a couple of large placques for testing painting and other mediums on. Still have one in the shop boxed up of a spackled lady on a pm large 8x12 frame. First furniture made hmm.. finished? hehehe Bookcase end is closest to finished at moment, needs sanding and painting. Desk next. The giant dollhouse castle didn't survive the move well so we will restart that soon.
